Pattimura University (Unpatti) Ambon, Maluku, has established a partnership with the University of Debrecen, Hungary, to implement the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in the region.

Unpatti continues to affirm its commitment to expanding its international network through a visit by an official delegation to the University of Debrecen, Hungary. This was stated by Dr. Nur Aida Kubangun, Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Public Relations, and Alumni at Unpatti. Furthermore, the collaboration between the two universities is a significant milestone in promoting Unpatti’s internationalization, particularly in the areas of education, research, and academic exchange.

During her visit to Debrecen University, Dr. Nur Aida Kubangun, a representative from Unpatti, gave a public lecture in conjunction with Erasmus Day at the Faculty of Education for Children and Special Educational Needs, University of Debrecen. The material presented covered the existence of Larul Ngabal law in the Kei Islands, early childhood education in Maluku, and psychological approaches to inclusive education.

The meeting between the two parties resulted in several follow-up actions agreed upon for implementation in the near future. These include lecturer exchanges between the two universities, guest lectures and joint international seminars, research collaborations, and joint publications, including the potential for collaborative cross-disciplinary book writing.

Furthermore, collaborations are underway between the History Education Study Program of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Pattimura University (UNPATTI), the History Study Program of the Faculty of Humanities, the Guidance and Counseling Study Program of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, and the Psychology Study Program of the University of Debrecen. As a form of academic contribution, the UNPATTI delegation also spoke at the 10th Special Treatment International Interdisciplinary Conference held at the University of Debrecen. Each presented research relevant to their expertise and the local Indonesian context.

This activity is part of UNPATTI’s internationalization strategy, in line with the university’s vision to become a leading island-based institution of higher education in the Pacific region.

Furthermore, UNPATTI’s Vice Rector for Student Affairs stated that this collaboration opens the door for UNPATTI to collaborate with leading institutions in Europe. This is not just about the MoU on paper, but about real implementation that can enrich the academic experience for all Unpatti academics.

Indonesian Embassy Appreciates Unpatti’s International Collaboration Efforts with the University of Debrecen Budapest, Hungary, April 25, 2025 – A delegation from Pattimura University (Unpatti), currently on a foreign service visit to Hungary to sign an academic cooperation agreement with the University of Debrecen, took the time to pay an official visit to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Budapest, Hungary, on April 25, 2025.
The visit was welcomed by the Minister Counselor of the Indonesian Embassy in Hungary, Mr. Ifan Mahdiyat, who received the three delegates warmly and with great appreciation.

The Unpatti delegation consisted of: • Dr. Nur Aida Kubangun, S.Pd., M.Pd. (Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni), • Prof. Dr. Albertus Fenanlampir, S.Pd., M.Pd., AIFO, • and Dr. Theophanny P. Th. Rampisela, S.Psi., M.Ed. from the International Office. During the meeting, Dr. Nur Aida Kubangun presented a report on the results of the Unpatti delegation’s visit to the University of Debrecen, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), various cooperation agreements between faculties and study programs, and active participation in the 10th Special Treatment International Interdisciplinary Conference. Mr. Ifan Mahdiyat expressed his full support for the internationalization steps taken by Pattimura University.

He stated that collaboration between Indonesian universities and educational institutions in Hungary, such as the University of Debrecen, is a strategic step in strengthening educational diplomacy and expanding Indonesia’s scientific influence on the global stage. “We greatly appreciate Pattimura University’s initiative to actively build international academic networks, particularly with leading European higher education institutions like the University of Debrecen. This also demonstrates Indonesia’s soft power diplomacy in the field of education,” said Mr. Ifan Mahdiyat.
During the discussion, the Indonesian Embassy also provided several input and opportunities for Unpatti to explore, including the possibility of inviting a Debrecen delegation to Indonesia, a lecturer and student exchange program, and joint research and publication collaborations. The meeting concluded with a group photo and exchange of souvenirs between the Unpatti delegation and the Indonesian Embassy, ​​symbolizing the cooperation and the spirit of strengthening inter-institutional relations. This visit to the Indonesian Embassy is an important part of Pattimura University’s series of overseas business trips, which aim not only to expand academic collaboration but also to strengthen Indonesia’s educational diplomacy through synergy with diplomatic missions abroad.
